Pending budgetary approval and meeting enrollment minimums, the Less-Commonly-Taught Languages (LCTL) Center in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking applications for two (2) non-tenure-stream positions of Full-Time Instructor of American Sign Language to begin on September 1, 2020 and end August 31, 2021. These positions have the possibility of renewal.
The position will involve responsibility for teaching in the LCTL Center’s ASL program (27 credits per year). In addition to teaching responsibilities, the instructor will be responsible for participating in Department and LCTL faculty meetings, and ASL program and curriculum meetings and LCTL events as required. Each instructor will participate in mandatory University, School, Department, and LCTL trainings.
- Master’s degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, Linguistics or a related field
- Equivalent of 1 year or more of experience teaching ASL to adults
- Equivalent of 3 years or more of experience teaching ASL at a college level
- Ability to teach courses on Deaf Culture, ASL Structure and/or other topics related to the Deaf experience.
- Experience with the Pittsburgh area Deaf community
- Involvement with the ASL Teachers Association (national or state level)
