|Program Description:||One of the tasks of UiL OTS is to offer a programme in linguistics to students who are planning to obtain a PhD degree in one of the institute's areas of research. Responsible for the coordination of that programme is the graduate programme supervisor. In addition to the research component which aims at completion of the doctoral dissertation within 3 years, the programme has an educational component comprising curricular and extra-curricular training activities. Each year, up to five full-time stipends are available for successful applicants. In addition, the institute actively exploits the possibilities for externally funded stipends.|
|Available Financial Aid:||The Utrecht Institute of Linguistics OTS (Utrecht University) offers three research grants in its International PhD programme:

GoalThe PhD places involve a research training and aim at the completion of a PhD dissertation within a maximum of three years. As part of their training, PhD students will take courses offered by the National Graduate School in Linguistics (LOT).
QualificationsApplicants should have an MA degree (or nearing completion, expected graduation by August 2006) in theoretical linguistics, computational linguistics or experimental linguistics (language acquisition, psycholinguistics, phonetics, text linguistics). They should speak and write fluent English.
Grant conditionsThe grant amounts to a monthly sum of €1400, payable at the beginning of each month. It is allocated for a trial period of one year, to be extended upon positive evaluation of the student's progress by a further two years (maximum). The grant entitles students to supervision, office and library facilities, assistance in finding housing as well as participation in the institute's support system for linguistics-related expenses (including attending conferences and LOT schools).For legal reasons, no grants can be offered to permanent residents of the Netherlands.
How to apply?The deadline for receipt of applications is March 24th, 2006.Applications (by regular mail or by e-mail) should include a letter of motivation and a 3-5 p project proposal (a research question well-grounded in existing literature supplemented with a research strategy and provisional workplan). Furthermore, the application should include a curriculum vitae, a transcript of academic results, an MA thesis (or written coursework if the MA thesis is not available yet), certified copies of relevant diplomas, and the contact details of two referees (names, affiliations and phone numbers or e-mail addresses).
