Sounds Fascinating

By J. C. Wells

How do you pronounce biopic, synod, and Breughel? - and why? Do our cake and archaic sound the same? Where does the stress go in stalagmite? What's odd about the word epergne? As a finale, the author writes a letter to his 16-year-old self.

Query:   I've been working on my master thesis in English linguistics. I will analyze the communication by E-mails, SMS, Facebook and software such as What's app.

I've prepared a short survey, which you are kindly asked to answer. At the end there is a field with a text to submit, it will be some SMS/E-mail/whatever from you in English, to whoever, eg. it can be something like that:

Cant w8 2 cu soon! Miss ya xx
I am utterly miserable until I should be seeing you this wonderful evening.

My aim is to focus on different linguistic structures used in such communication, so you (both native and non-native speakers) could give me a hand! Thank you!!
