Language, Literacy, and Technology

By Richard Kern

"In this book, Richard Kern explores how technology matters to language and the ways in which we use it. Kern reveals how material, social and individual resources interact in the design of textual meaning, and how that interaction plays out across contexts of communication, different situations of technological mediation, and different moments in time."

Academic Paper

Title: Access, prestige and losses in contact languages
Author: Mikael Parkvall
Homepage: http://bilbo.ling.su.se/staff/parkvall/
Institution: Stockholm University
Linguistic Field: Sociolinguistics
Abstract: I am generally positive about Muysken's (M) approach, and the potential use of unifying various seemingly related phenomena is obvious. The approach could also serve as a tool in determining to what extent these phenomena actually are sides of the same coin (I am somewhat less convinced of this than most contact linguists).
