Title: Review on the Macrostructure and Microstructure of the Hyper Lexicon English-Greek Dictionary (Electronic Version 1.0)

Institution: University of Athens
Linguistic Field: Applied Linguistics; Lexicography; Semantics
Abstract: Dictionary criticism is an activity which has been largely beset by personal prejudice. However, this paper conducts the criticism of the Hyper Lexicon English-Greek dictionary on a sound and rigorous basis. In particular, for the detailed assessment we used a random sampling of fifty two entries. Taking into account the extensive range of the users (intermediate and advanced learners, professionals, translators) and their needs, this review is based on well established external criteria derived from metalexicography. Moreover, there are two sets of external criteria, one related to the presentation and accessibility, the other related to the content.
