Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to discuss how some communicative theories of second language learning have influenced the way English is taught in the Taiwanese EFL classroom. /L/ Teachers and curriculum designers must critically look at different approaches before committing themselves to one. The CA was designed with European students in mind, and it has yet to be critically revised within the Asian context.
