Author: Abdolmajid Hayati

Institution: Shahid Chamran University
Linguistic Field: Applied Linguistics
Abstract: As far as the language learning situation is concerned, different methods and techniques have been so far proposed for Teaching English to the Speakers of Other Languages. The most recent trend to language learning seems to be a Communicative Approach at the result of which the students will face a feeling of both secure and assurance. From among the many various techniques suggested in the framework of Communicative Approach, "problem-solving" and "role-playing" are most common and entertaining. The focus of the present paper is however on role-play since it is even, I believe, prior to and more important than problem-solving situations where mental and logical reasoning and processes rather than "performance objectives" are involved.
