Guidelines for Announcing Publications on LINGUIST
LINGUIST announces new books, journals, and working papers, and we also post Tables of Contents for new issues of existing journals. In addition, we store book information in our database. However, we ask that announcements be submitted by publishers, not authors, since we charge publishers a fee for posting. If you are an author who wants your book announced and/or reviewed on LINGUIST, please ask your editor to contact us at
pubs linguistlist.org".
Acceptable submissions
- As our readership consists substantially of academic linguists, we will only announce publications that are directly relevant to the field of linguistics.
- Only submissions of new books are allowed. They may be announced only once, in the year of their publication. Once posted, we cannot delete book announcements as our issues are archived with the US Library of Congress. However, you may freely update information in the database, and mark the book as Out of Print if necessary.
- We may be willing to host your entire back catalogue in our database. Please email us at
pubs
linguistlist.org for more information and to discuss terms.
- The length of the abstract or description is limited to 4,000 characters. This is a limitation imposed by our database software.
How to submit an announcement
- Please submit your announcements via the web.
Our Publications Editor at pubs linguistlist.org will give you a login and password to enable you to do this. Although we will help all we can with any initial problems in transmission and formatting, LINGUIST can not be responsible for routine proofreading and editing.
Submit an announcement now
- We are unable to accept submissions by email, without prior arrangement with our publications editor.
- More specific help on our book submission form is available here.
Submitting a book for review
- Publishers who wish a book to be reviewed on LINGUIST must send in a book announcement as described above. Our database integrates book announcements, reviews, and information
on authors or editors; therefore we will not review books which have not been announced on LINGUIST.
- In addition, a review copy should be sent to the Review Editor at
reviews
linguistlist.org.
- The Review Editors send out a call for reviewers on LINGUIST every month. We often get multiple requests to review a single book, so we suggest that you send two review copies if feasible. Posting two reviews of a book is often advantageous, both to LINGUIST and to the publisher, since it encourages discussion of the book and thereby gives it more exposure.
