Hello,
My name is Ben Cool and I am a programmer for The LINGUIST List. My focus at LINGUIST is on the LL-MAP project.
I have my bachelors degree in Computer Science and am currently working on a Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence at EMU.
I specialize in web application development, search engine optimization and user-database interfaces.
While working at the LINGUIST List I have learned a great deal especially with regard to user interface design.
Since January 2007 I have learned three(at least) new programming languages specific to web design and publishing.
I have been given a chance to continually test my skills as a programmer and an interface designer at The LINGUIST List.
My Work (at the LINGUIST List):
LL-MAP
- LL-MAP is Language and Location a Map Annotation Project. It is in its third and final year of the grant from NSF that allows us to work with such interesting technologies such as: ESRI's Arc Suite including ArcMap, ArcIMS and ArcSDE. This project has truely made my work at The LINGUIST List fun and exciting.
2007 Fund Drive
- The 2007 Fund Drive at The LINGUIST List was an exciting and stressful way to get my feet wet here at LINGUIST. Fund Drive was a way that I could express myself as a web designer and as a programmer together for the first time.
2008 Fund Drive
- The 2008 Fund Drive was a much smoother project to work on than the 2007 Fund Drive. Creating a simple template for the site proved to be the only programming Involvement that I had; while the rest of the LINGUIST crew pulled the site together without help from a programmer.
My Hometown Tour
- My hometown tour was a fun project to work on here at The LINGUIST List. I was able to show off my skills in creating interactive map interfaces with the Google Maps API, while teaching people about my hometown in Canton Michigan.
Personal Projects (outside the LINGUIST List):
Citrus Stand Media Group, Inc., Web Design and SEO for Auto Dealers
- Citrus Stand Media Group, Inc., is a corporation that I formed in August, 2006 along with friends Jason Jaeger and Jon Jaeger. The focus of the company is to provide Search Engine Optimization and easy to use Inventory Management Systems for High-Line Auto Dealerships. Although the main focus of Citrus Stand Media Group is for Automotive applications, we have provided services and produts for other industries including hotels, music, and online retail.
Ypsilanti Citizen News (Ypsi Citi)
- Some friends and I have put together this local news site for the Ypsilanti area. Learn all about what is happening in Ypsilanti.
DealerRevs.com - Cars for sale by auto dealers
- Soon after launching freerevs.com, We were contacted by several dealers asking if they could list their entire inventory on FreeRevs.com. After turning down several dealers we were contacted by Auction123 an inventory management company with approximately 300 dealers. Keeping to the fact that FreeRevs.com is a site for consumers only, we built DealerRevs.com to accomodate all vehicles for sale in each dealer's inventory with at least one photo.
Chicago Sports Cars
- The first Citrus Stand Media Group, Online Inventory Management system, paired with a website designed to increase the visibility on the web of certain Chicago Dealerships.
GTcarlot vehicle archives.
- An online vehicle photo archive. Users can research vehicles and color combinations with over 400,000 vehicle photos.
Jaeger Brothers Automotive Accessories Inc., Splash Guards for Show Cars
- Jaeger Brothers Automotive Accessories, Inc. is an Ypsilanti, Michigan based auto accessories wholesale manufacturer. This was one of the first paid websites that I designed. The website focuses on the sale of instant splash guards called JFlaps. The splash guards require no drilling or screws to install and remove in seconds.
FreeRevs.com
- This is a new project Citrus Stand has been working on. Launched June 2008, using the years of work that Citrus Stand has put toward helping dealerships gain visibility online: Citrus Stand has put together a free online automotive classifieds site called FreeRevs.com. Anyone can sell a car for free.
