First Summer School in Historical Linguistics of Germanic Languages SUM-UP

Focus: The First Summer School in Historical Linguistics at the University of Potsdam (SUM-UP) will focus on theoretical aspects of historical linguistics, and on extinct Germanic languages. In particular, it will offer courses to students of Germanic Languages that university curricula often do not integrate.

Minimum Education Level: BA

Description:
The summer school will last one week and takes place from September 14th to September 20th 2014 in the unique historical setting of the University of Potsdam. It will provide intensive theoretical knowledge in various areas of language change and its modeling, as well as language proficiency in extinct Germanic languages. Five courses will be offered by known experts in the field.

The teachers in 2014 will be:
- Kersti Börjars, University of Manchester, United Kingdom
- Ulrike Demske, University of Potsdam, Germany
- Tonya Kim Dewey, Ghent University, Belgium
- David Fertig, SUNY University at Buffalo, U.S.A.
- Christopher Sapp, University of Mississippi, U.S.A.

Classes will start on September 15th and take place in the morning and afternoon. The summer school includes a poster session and several social activities.

The school is open for international students of Germanic languages at MA or PhD level. The number of participants is limited to 25. All courses will be taught in English.
