Description:

The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for the position of French Language Coordinator. The French Language Coordinator will oversee a six semester, multi-section French language program that includes Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced French courses. The Coordinator will teach 2 French language classes per semester and will be responsible for selecting textbooks and working with instructors to develop exams, quizzes, and pedagogical materials, as well as for supervising those faculty teaching in the French Language Program and for guaranteeing consistency across sections and smooth articulation between levels of French. The successful candidate will have experience coordinating multi-section French language courses and will be an effective manager. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in French Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition and Teaching, or a related field, although experienced coordinators with an MA can be considered for the position. Expertise in SLA and the ability to leverage technology in classroom-based language instruction is required, as is native or near native fluency in both French and English.

The position is a renewable nine-month non-tenure line appointment beginning fall 2014 at the rank of Professorial Lecturer, if the successful candidate has the PhD in hand. The position will also include a one month summer adjunct appointment with a stipend during the summer prior to the start of the contract.
