A culmination of over 20 years' work, this book was awarded the prestigious
Leonard Bloomfield Award in 2006 by the Linguistics Society of America for
the best book published across all fields of linguistics, worldwide, during
the two-year period March 2003 - February 2005.

Although Dixon was unable to attend the ceremony in Albuquerque in January
2006, an acceptance speech (pdf file, 11.7KB) was read on his behalf.
