Subject: Reduplicated Quotatives
I am working on reduplicated quotative constructions in Panjabi, and am looking
for (potential) examples of such constructions (full reduplication with the
function of direct quotation) in other languages, whether from South Asia or
elsewhere. A Panjabi example of the type of construction I am researching is:
mai~ ful paawar ful paawar paRhiyaa
I full power full power read
'I read, "Full power".'
Also, if anyone has encountered similar examples in earlier stages of Indo-Aryan
languages, I would be extremely interested to hear of those.

Subject: Reverse Language Transfer - Positive or Negative?
I am doing research on reverse language transfer from L2 to L1, looking
specifically at Bulgarian as L1 and English as L2. While L1 transfer in L2
language acquisition is more or less established, L1 alteration as a result
of L2 acquisition is less investigated. I am going to examine the speech
(in Bulgarian) of Bulgarian speakers of fluent L2 English in order to see
the alterations which L2 has caused or whether some of the L1 parameters
have been reset to L2 values, checking both the performance and the
grammatical judgements of the speakers and comparing the results with
English acquired during and after the critical period.
Vivian Cook's work on the effects of the second language acquisition has
been really helpful. I have looked at Russian, Finnish, and French as L1
(English is L2) and so far the evidence points toward a negative effect (L1
attrition) of L2 acquisition. I was wondering whether somebody has come
across studies demonstrating explicit positive effects like increased
linguistic competence in L1, for example.
