University or Organization: University of Pennsylvania Department: Communication Within the Curriculum Rank of Job: Associate Director Specialty Areas: Discourse Analysis, Teaching Oral Communication Description: Associate Director, Communication Within the Curriculum College of Arts and Sciences, University of Pennsylvania The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania seeks to hire an associate director for Communication Within the Curriculum (CWiC). The College has integrated instruction in oral communication into its undergraduate curriculum through a program called Communication Within the Curriculum (CWiC). CWiC trains undergraduate speaking advisors to consult with their peers on oral communication assignments in courses across the disciplines. As an "across-the-curriculum" program, CWiC seeks to make speaking assignments an integral part of learning course content in many fields. The program also maintains a speaking center with office hours, where students may seek help with any speaking activity, and non-credit workshops on a range of oral communication topics. The associate director will manage and continue to develop all aspects of the program including: managing personnel (including student advisors and support staff) and the program's budget, consulting with faculty on how to integrate oral assignments into their courses, teaching student and faculty workshops and supporting a culture of conversation and inquiry at Penn through collaborations with other on-campus organizations. The associate director will also teach a credit bearing course on persuasive speaking and peer advising to train speaking advisors.
