Grate coarsely and set aside 6 carrots. Chop and let aside 1/2 cup walnuts. Combine 2 cups flour, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1 tsp salt. In another bowl, beat together 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup oil. Add and beat in 4 eggs, one at a time. Add 1/2 tsp vanilla extract Stir in the flour mixture, walnuts, carrots. Preheat oven to 400°F/200°C. Pour mixture into a greased baking pan. Bake for 50 min. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
