|Meeting Description:||'Looking Forward: Skills, Challenges and Perspectives'
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is worldwide famous for its endurance: despite having started to tilt during its construction, in 1178, the tower still stands after over 800 years. Over time its structure has been strengthened and it is constantly monitored with state-of-the-art technologies and equipment – yet, it is still beautiful and one of the most important landmarks of Italy.
In our industry, many professionals tend to see new technologies as a threat. However, the Leaning Tower of Pisa shows that technologies can help preserve the unique charm of something imperfect yet astonishing. Building on this example, we will tackle some of the key questions professional translators worldwide are currently engaging with:
What are the skills and perspectives that translators and interpreters need to develop to stand the test of time?
Do we need to aim for perfection or rather focus on our uniqueness?
Should we hold our stance or rather take advantage of the changes in the industry?
