Subject: Areas of studies
Question: What is the differences or similarities between a PhD in Linguistics and a PhD in Second language studies. Thank You very much
Reply: All three answers are right on! I should like to add, however, that Second Language Studies can vary greatly. Some programs require a number of obligatory courses in theoretical linguistics, as well as courses in Second Language Acquisition, Second Language pedagogy (teaching), statistics, psychology, etc.). Other programs (most often those offered by Education faculties) are not so heavy on linguistics courses and require more courses in Education, etc.
