Dissertation Abstract:
Study of the French discourse markers 'donc' and 'alors' within the framework of the semantics of argumentation and enunciation. Our thesis proposes to clear away the old scientific paradigm of causality - causation, attainment, conclusivity - from the grammatical and linguistic descriptions of these markers. We understand that this descriptive principle is grounded in referential theories of the language. We demonstrate the lack of theoretical consistency of this scientific paradigm, and we raise a new descriptive proposal for this pair of markers in a non-referential theory of the language, within the specific framework of discourse dynamics. We show how these markers emerge generating discourse dynamics from argumentative or conclusive types, which we associate with a specific argumentative and enunciative configuration, that we describe with heuristic instruments: semantic blocks, and enunciative algorithms.
