In particular, the conference is concerned with the following topics: 1. How does a translator (fail to) bridge the gap between a sacred text and the language to which this text is translated? 2. What linguistic patterns can the sacred text translation reveal that the translation of other texts cannot? 3. What is the relevance of the linguistic science to the sacred text translation? 4. What are the challenges facing the translation of the rhetorical and literary texture of the sacred texts? 5. Is exegesis a prerequisite to a sacred text translation? How are these dynamics to be understood and explained from political, anthropological, historical, linguistic and cultural perspectives? Call for Papers We welcome multidisciplinary papers and also encourage presentations of research in progress. Papers will be organized into thematic panels, such as: - Language policy and migration - Migration and maintenance of cultural identities - Languages in contact - Caucasian diasporas Abstracts: Deadline for abstracts: September 15. Abstracts should be written in English, but presentations may be given in English or Russian. Researchers from countries requiring a visa for Sweden are encouraged to contact us at an earlier date. The conference is organized by Caucasus Studies at Malmö University, Sweden, in cooperation with the Center for Caucasus Studies at Øresund University.
